Red Lodge Montana..About 45 miles south of
Interstate 90 on #212 (about 15 miles west of Billings)
Red Lodge is an old mining town that has now focused on ranching, Rodeo's, guiding and vacation hospitality. Red Lodge has done it without losing It's Montana personality. Transportation is still a pickup truck, with a dog or two in the open box behind & a western hat for the sun... The town is a "funky", friendly place that we truly enjoy. In winter, the Red Lodge Ski Mountain draws skiers from 1,000 miles around. In summer, a first class 18 hole golf course, lots of rivers, and fishing streams, hiking, mountain biking and Yellowstone Park provide an variety of activities. Highway # 212 is a National Scenic Byway… News commentator Charles Kuralt called the road thru Beartooth Pass to Cook City, (a 65 mile drive),
"The most beautiful drive in America.!"
Driving……Lots of Minn. & Wisc.& Ill. Lic. plates in Red Lodge.
For us, (Mpls Area.) It's a long 1 day drive..(875 miles)
However, no drive to the airport,…we encounter no long lines.
No security checks, no lost luggage and we arrive with our own car.
even the drive is interesting. We generally see lots of wildlife on the trip. We leave at 5:AM & arrive at 7 or 8 PM Mountain time What a deal!
